Another Video Game and a Bike Ride
Hi again, everyone! I guess I'm going to resort to another video game post in a very short time. Mainly because I don't have any new pictures of Karissa and I couldn't find the ones I took of my motorcycle and haven't had time to take any more.
Speaking of bikes, though, Nate, Kevin, James, Roger and I went on an awesome ride last Sunday! (Memorial day weekend) We rode up the parkway, out 130, and came back on 501 North. It was awesome! The weather was beautiful, the sun was hot, tires were sticky, and there was very little traffic on the parkway. Unfortunately, though, we got behind extremely slow traffic on both 130 and 501, and we couldn't pass it until we got almost back to Lynchburg. A good time was had by all, though.
On to the game!
Metoid II:Return of Samus, relesed in 1992 for the original Gameboy, is the sequel to the NES game released in 1986. The first Metroid had Samus Aran, an intergalactic bounty hunter, charged with reclaiming a newly-discovered life form, the Metroid, from the evil space pirates who have stolen it from a Galactic Federation ship that was transporting it back to Earth.
Metroids are kind of jellyfish-like creatures that attach themselves to their prey and suck life out of it. The Space Pirates, being the violent, amoral creatures they are, are attempting to use the metroids as living weapons.
Thankfully, Samus was successful, and in Metroid II, she is sent back to the metroids' home planet, SR388, to exterminate the remaining metroids, as they have been deemed too dangerous to let live.
The game is a fairly short, but it is a great scrolling adventure game, and clearly shows it's Metroid heritage. It introduced a few new things to the series, such as the spider ball, spring ball, and screw attack. It also is a fairly historic game in it's own right, as it is one of the first cartridge games to use a battery-backed save system. It is nearly 15 years old, but it is still a great game, particularly for a Metroid fan like me. :-)
Unfortunately, I don't have any screenshots, but, if you are really that desperate to see some, you should be able to find some on the web somewhere.
There, I guess you can see what I've been doing, although It's been a couple of weeks since I've really had time to play any video games, period, and it's probably been longer than that since I finished this one, as I've been busy or gone 8 of the last 10 days (or evenings), running around doing anything and everything that needs to bedone and almost nothing that I want to do. :-(
That having been said, I've been working on Super Mario 64 a little, so I guess that will probably be the next game I'll post about, though it will probably be awhile, as it's a halfway long game. In the meantime, I'll post random pictures of Karissa, probably a post about my bike, and other random things.
Stay tuned!
